 This classic Ealing comedy is based on a true incident – the foundering of a cargo ship off a Hebridean island with 50,000 cases of whisky aboard. The islanders of the fictional Todday smuggle cases of the scotch from the ship before it goes under, and the rest of the film is taken up with their manic efforts to hide their booty from an interfering English officer and the Customs and Excise. This is great fun with wonderful characters, beautifully barbed dialogue, and a typically Ealing emphasis on a seditious sense of community.

‘SOUL SPARK’ – Lent Course 2012

In looking for a Lent course that would tie in with the Diocesan Conference, the conference committee with Bishop Anthony have chosen ‘Soul Spark’.

Soul Spark is a six-session course that explores prayer as a resource for faith in a practical way. It offers a variety of approaches to prayer and perspectives that help to guide and make sense of the spiritual life. The intention is to open up some of the riches of the Christian tradition to enable a deeper and healthier spirituality in a context of reflection and sharing. Rather than seeking to teach, it seeks to encourage people to open up to the reality of God in their own lives.

In this parish we shall be running the course in the evenings at the newly opened Reading Room at the Leintwardine Community Centre (except for the first Wednesday, which will be in the Community Centre itself). It will begin on Wednesday 29 February and continue on Wednesday 7, Monday 12, Monday 19, (to avoid clashing with Wednesday’s Local History Society meeting), Wednesday 28 March, and Wednesday 4 April. Each session will begin at 7.30 and finish by 9.30. There are 30 places available and a suggested donation (although not compulsory) of £2 per session would be welcome to meet the cost of hiring the venue and providing materials.
